Content is king. Adding quality material to your site to increase your sales.

Adding useful, interesting material related to your product or service is one powerful way to encourage a flow of visitors to your site.
It is a known fact that online customers will often visit a site more than once before making a purchase.
If you are supplying quality content that is going to inform and assist your visitor in some way then you are more likely to gain them as a customer if not now, then at a later date.

Content can take the form of written articles, diagrams, photos, audio or video footage.
But whatever the form, it has to be relevant.
Remember you need material that is targeted towards your visitor who is going to become a buying customer and your website needs to reflect this. (so add your content with your customers in mind).
Treat your website as a dynamic thing, "growing" it with fresh material on a regular basis so it never becomes stale.

Ways to add quality content for your website Audience.
Below is a list of items you can create that are effective ways to add interesting and informative material to your site.

A calendar of events or activities regarding your business.(new products launches etc).

A community noticeboard (If your site is a local one) where your visitors can post details about events.
(Adding a community feel to your site will encourage regular vists to see "what's on" and creates goodwill).

Maps and diagrams related to your product or service.

Tutorials and "How to's" (People love to read "how to" guides.)
Video tutorials are a great way to do this and there are excellent products available to do this.

Testimonies from customers with before and after footage.

Customer photos where past customers could post their pictures and journal entries on your site. This is ideal for vacation sites, recreational sites, wedding sites, baby sites, photography studios, etc

Competitions.(Post your winner's photo on your site).

Blogs and forums.

An advice column (Dear Abby...note it needn't be about personal problems, but could be tailored to your readership, ie a technical issue, whatever relates to your site.)

Articles of interest (aim to add new material once or twice a week).
If your product is seasonal then here is also another excellent opportunity to post appropriate articles for those times of the year..

A questions and answers page where people can have their questions answered by an expert.
(also a FAQ page).

Product reviews.

Short tips and tricks on how to get the most from your product.

Solutions to problems.
(Use this as a launching pad to describe how your product or service has been able to provide an effective solution).

Record an interview with an expert in your field either in written, audio or video format and post this on your site.

Statistics- either your own or from another source (Indicate where they are from).

These are just a few ideas.
Don't be afraid to be creative and brainstorm some of your own.
Also note that having quality content will also increase your supply of quality links because you will be providing information that people are looking for.
